The Philharmonie Köln is celebrating its 25th birthday this year. To mark the occasion, the Musiknacht is joining in the festivities with a spectacular premiere. „Paeanumnion“ will see electronic cult-formation Mouse on Mars work with an orchestra for the first time, contributing electronic sounds to the performance by the musikFabrik under the direction of Andre de Ridder. Adding to the already impressive line-up, Berlin-based experimen- tal sound artist Markus Popp aka Oval will collaborate with electronica-duo The Allophons from Cologne.

This year’s Musiknacht will see the live debut of a new duo by Andrés Krause and Marc Matter. Both artists have been involved in experimental sound art for more than a decade and are now mak- ing their deep, sustained tones – also known as drones or bordun – resonate with previously unheard-of intensity.

The wide field of fragile electronic music opening up in between Stock- hausen and Can is where Niobe feels most at home. Hiding behind the Niobe moniker is Yvonne Cornelius. For her performance at the Musiknacht, she will be accompanied by Marc Matter (Institut für Feinmotorik) on turntables as well Christian Thomé on drums.
